The Hyatt Regency Hill Country sits on what was once 2,828.97 acres of the
Rogers-Wiseman ranch. The many different tracts and surveys of this particular piece of historical and much-traded land have direct ties to some of the most pivotal people and events in Texas history.
In 1887, D.G. Rogers, failing in the resort business in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, traded his Oconomowoc resort property for $75,000 in cash, 500 head of cattle, a race horse, three ranch houses and “certain lands, situated, lying and being in the county of Bexar, Texas” (never dreaming that a portion of it would eventually and ironically become the home of one of the finest resorts in the country).
In 1990, with the Rogers-Wiseman family branching out and the city moving ever closer, the family decided to sell 200 acres of the ranch to a group of companies assembled by Woodbine Development Corporation of Dallas. The team had great plans – a Hyatt Regency resort capturing the essence of Texas’ historic Hill Country. A place as enjoyable for new guests as it was for those of times past - a careful blend of old and new.
